SPS School of Theology

Theology serves the church. At least it should. Throughout the history of the church, the greatest theologians have been rooted in the realities of church life and Christian living. Theology was never meant to be studied in the clinical atmosphere of university classrooms. It was never meant to be the accumulation of arcane knowledge and information about God. Instead, theology was meant “to give wings to the soul;” to be a practical discipline that helped Christians live distinctively and flourish in their faith. That is what we are seeking to do at the School of Theology.  We want to play our part in restoring theology to the heart of the church.

At the School of Theology we learn together what Christians believe, why it matters and what difference it makes to our lives as disciples of Jesus. We seek to grow in practical wisdom as we reflect on Christian life and experience through the lenses of Scripture, reason and tradition. You don’t need any previous qualifications, just a desire to dig deeper into your faith.

The School of Theology meets in the Upper Room of St Paul’s Institute from 9.30am-12.30pm on the first Saturday of every month. A typical morning will include breakfast, a time of worship, and a lecture followed by questions and answers and group discussion.
