Alongside You East London is a local branch of a children’s charity supporting around 70 families affected by HIV in the area. They aim to enable Christians to respond to the issue of HIV in their community, by offering practical support through home-based childcare and friendship to local children in need. After training, volunteers are introduced to a family and visit regularly for 3 hours every week/fortnight to spend quality time with children and give parents a break. Other volunteers help children attend our group outings programme in school holidays or with the youth programme, for 12-18 year olds aware of HIV in the family.
If you enjoy spending time with children, have a capacity for fun and a heart to support families in difficult circumstances – then perhaps you could give up some time to volunteer and make a difference to a family affected by HIV in your community. There is a waiting list for their service.
